Flexible, high-speed systems
At Matthews Engineering, we develop advanced printing and lacquering lines that combine performance, design flexibility, and precise control. Whether you’re applying lacquer or ink to floor coverings, wallcoverings, or high-performance films — our machines deliver superior quality at industrial speed.
With modular design, intuitive operation, and smart automation, our systems adapt to your materials and production needs — helping you bring creative ideas to market faster and more efficiently.
Production Lines
Matthews Engineering printing and lacquering systems enable high-speed, industry-specific production with minimal waste and top-quality results.
Designed for water- or solvent-based inks and lacquers, these machines offer coating weights from 0.5 to 60 g/m² with maximum register accuracy, fast setup, and low scrap rates. Fully automatic gap and pressure controls, recipe management and register systems (even without marks) ensure defect-free, repeatable surface finishes. Flexible applicators allow forward/reverse lacquering, direct/indirect coating and fast changeovers via trolley systems.
With working widths up to 5,400 mm and compatibility with all industrial speeds, the systems are suitable for both small and large formats. Inline concepts with up to 12 printing units support continuous design changes, while offline systems target high-speed printing. Advanced visualization keeps web tension monitored at all times. Expertise in ATEX, explosion protection and exhaust treatment complements tailor-made solutions—including modules for smoothing or embossing.
Matthews Engineering leverages decades of cross-industry experience to develop innovative, customer-specific technologies.
The ingenio laboratory printing machines are compact proofing devices for realistic printing simulations and efficient color testing in packaging development.
Our Printing & Lacquering Lines are engineered for precision, speed, and creative agility — with scalable configurations and process-specific flexibility to meet the evolving demands of industrial printing. Whether you’re producing intricate designs, complex multi-color layouts, or variable data printing, our systems are built to adapt.
Available in modular configurations with up to 12 printing units, our systems support both inline and offline operation for optimal process integration. Each unit can be configured for gravure, flexographic, or screen technologies, enabling uninterrupted production with high-speed design changes and exceptional register accuracy — even at speeds up to 100 m/min.
Engineered for full versatility, our machines support direct and indirect coating, as well as forward or reverse lacquer flow. Whether you require primers, functional coatings, or UV lacquers, our applicator systems ensure uniform layer thickness, excellent edge definition, and compatibility with a wide range of substrates and finishes.
Our precision fluid delivery modules include closed-loop viscosity control, temperature stabilization, and low-ink-level alarms to maintain consistent print quality. These systems are designed to reduce waste, simplify clean-up, and ensure optimal ink or lacquer laydown across every run.
Tailored to your process, we offer intermediate and final drying/curing units using hot air, infrared (IR), or UV technology. Advanced zone control allows for precise drying parameters across various substrates, improving adhesion, durability, and surface finish — even at high line speeds.
Equipped with real-time register and tension control, our web handling systems ensure exact alignment and material stability throughout the process. Integrated edge guiding, auto-splice, and dancer systems maintain flawless web tracking — minimizing scrap and optimizing productivity.
Our intuitive HMI platforms and AI-powered automation tools streamline setup, diagnostics, and process control. From recipe management to predictive maintenance alerts, our smart systems boost operational efficiency and ensure repeatable, high-quality output — with minimal operator intervention.
